Privacy
This explains what Chris Esser collects when you use this website, and who else is involved.
This site is built and hosted with Spandrel, which runs it for us and handles the technical side of everything described here.
When you visit this site
Our web server records the usual details of every request: the address of the page you asked for, the time, your IP address, and the name your browser gives for itself.
Images, files and icons on this site are served from our hosting provider's storage (Cloudflare R2), so your browser contacts them directly and they see your IP address.
Visitor statistics
We count visits so we can see which pages people read. That records the page, the time, whether you are on a phone, tablet or computer, and the website you followed a link from.
This uses no cookies and stores no IP address. Your IP address and browser name go into a one-way code that changes every day, which is enough to tell one visitor from another within a single day and impossible to follow across days.
The country your connection appears to come from is recorded when our network provider, Cloudflare, supplies it. These records are kept for about 13 months.
Fonts
The typefaces on this site are loaded from Google (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), so your browser contacts Google, which sees your IP address, when a page loads.
